Human Rights and International Development
From March 2014 until November 2015 Tom was the head of communications for the child rights charity, Childreach International, which worked in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the United Kingdom.
Childreach International, which ceased operations in 2018, worked through a network of affiliate organisations; Action for Brazil's Children (ABC Trust), Childreach India, Childreach Nepal and Childreach Tanzania, as well as having projects in Morocco, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Tom led Childreach's anti-child trafficking campaign - Taught, Not Trafficked - which was launched at the London Indian Film Festival in July 2015 when the film SOLD opened the festival. The film was also shown in Kathmandu as the centrepiece of a week of events to raise awareness about child trafficking in Nepal. The Taught, Not Trafficked project run by Childreach Nepal and other partners works to prevent trafficking through education and by keeping children in school.
On January 31st 2016 Childreach's Taught, Not Trafficked project was featured as the BBC Radio 4 Appeal given by actress Gillian Anderson, who stars in SOLD.
The appeal ran for a week and raised over £22,000.
You can listen to the broadcast on the BBC Radio 4 website.
